Fiction Writer. Fiction Editor. Panelist. Judge.
My short stories have been published in many journals and I’ve received writing scholarships to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference and the Summer Literary Seminar in St. Petersburg, Russia.
I have spoken at various conferences on fiction editing. I’ve been a faculty participant in seminars at Fordham University, New York University, AWP, Slice Writers’ Conference, and the Disquiet Writers’ Conference in Lisbon.
I’m on the Readers’ Committee for the New York Public Library Young Lions Award. I’m also a frequent judge for literary awards. I’ve also read my fiction and nonfiction at some 40 venues in New York City and around the world.
I am the former Fiction Editor at the award-winning journal, Guernica. My work has been praised by Esquire and has received several major literary awards, such as the Caine Prize for African Writing (known also as the “African Booker”).
Guernica is a seven-time PEN World Voices participant. It recently won the AWP Small Press Award and the Editor’s Award from PEN.
As an editor, I’ve published works by five Noel Laureates and writers including Alexandra Kleeman, Roxane Gay, Saeed Jones, Jesse Ball, Rivka Galchen, Francisco Goldman, Sam Lipsyte, Ben Marcus, and Claire Messud.
